Request for feedback

UDSAI has chosen not to include a “Conclusion” with this policy guide because our work and the apparel and retailing industries’ work toward environmental sustainability is far from being concluded. New information, materials, processes, and systems that allow for continuous improvement will be rapidly developed over the next several years. UDSAI intends to continue to promote environmental sustainability and social responsibility in the apparel and retail industries. We invite you to join us in work that will have positive economic, environmental, and social benefits for the world and its people. We urge you to contribute feedback to these policies in the comments section of this web site so that we can begin a collaborative dialogue that will expand the impact of our efforts and those of companies around the world who want to be “sustainable.”

It is exciting to see the work you have completed. The key to success is not to publish in the USA but to publish globally and have the concepts adopted globally. Having spent many hours in factories around the world, it is more important then ever to have people sign on to the strategies and explain the requirements when developing product. Many companies including the ones I have been involved in develop a company strategy that includes all these elements. In the past the Chinese view a quality product as one that looks good and meets the required measurements. The truth is that when you throw the product in the wash it shrinks and runs. It is exciting to see the work you are doing. I have developed a strategy called “Product integrity” which is defined by many of your points.

Great to see that science and industry develop policies for more sustainability in fashion.
MADE-BY as a European multistakeholder initiative started in 2004 helping fashion brands and retailers to improve their supply chains and to be transparent about the results.
It is time for fashion with respect for people and planet not only in niches, but also in the mainstream.
